- ➤ A new city study confirmed that Hunter Road’s storm sewer system cannot handle heavy rainfall, leaving residents at risk of flooding. The report will be presented to the Board of Public Works and City Council as officials consider repair options costing $360,000 to $1.4 million. TMJ-4
- ➤ Residents in Big Bend expressed concern over a planned high-voltage transmission project after MISO selected Viridon Midcontinent LLC on Jan. 6; the project, which will include four substations and over 100 miles of power lines, is set to serve southeastern Wisconsin by June 1, 2033. TMJ-4

- ➤ School District of Waukesha announced that six candidates filed ballot access paperwork for three school board seats, including incumbents Bette Koenig and Diane Voit — no primary will be held in February. The Waukesha Freeman

- ➤ A new bipartisan bill to ease surprise ground ambulance bills was discussed at a public hearing Wednesday, Jan. 7, in Waukesha. Rep. Tony Kurtz’s proposal would require insurers to cover rates more than three times Medicare's—boosting ambulance services and rural response. FOX6
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Tyler Sutton, a sixth grader at Silver Spring Intermediate, died unexpectedly Dec. 28 after showing signs of breathing difficulties, and authorities are still reviewing his case while the school provides support services. - ➤ The YMCA of Greater Waukesha County has received a grant from the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation to expand its Youth Strong and LIVESTRONG at the YMCA programs for cancer survivors in 2025, which will help families access community wellness support + health resources. The Waukesha Freeman
