COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Salem United Methodist Church donated a $4,087 check from its Christmas offering to the FOOD Pantry Serving Waukesha County, a longtime partner since 1978. The church also supports the pantry by volunteering monthly and providing key supplies (such as formula and diapers) to help families in need.  The Waukesha Freeman

CULTURE NEWS

  • Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church’s 61st Greek Fest will move to its new home (Waukesha County Expo Center Grounds) from June 19 to 21 and will offer Greek food, traditional music, and cultural celebrations along with new menu items and expanded entertainment.  The Waukesha Freeman

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Mukwonago Area School District will decide by the end of the school year whether to cut 4th and 5th grade band and orchestra programs due to new middle school cost-saving needs; community members voiced strong opposition at board meetings, stressing the benefits of early music education.  TMJ-4
  • Katie Bergmann, Colin Chance, and Lisa Erdmann are running for a vacant Swallow School Board seat as incumbent Mike Hoida is not seeking re-election. A primary will be held on Feb. 18 with the top-two finishers advancing to a general election on Apr. 7.  Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

HEALTH NEWS

  • Pro-Health Waukesha Memorial Hospital now uses a new robotic bronchoscopy system to detect lung cancer earlier with less discomfort than traditional methods. The procedure uses a CT scan to create a virtual map — a GPS-like guide — for accurately steering a flexible catheter during biopsies.  The Waukesha Freeman
