CULTURE NEWS

  • The First Wave, an 80s cover band, will perform on July 14 in Tribute Tuesday at the Les Paul Performance Center (321 Wisconsin Ave, Cutler Park) with concessions opening at 5:30 p.m. and the concert starting at 7 p.m.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • Brookfield’s Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts named Kortney Hamm as its new executive director to lead growth in arts education and community programming. The public is invited to meet Hamm at the Season Announce on April 14, with doors opening at 6 p.m.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • Attendees can enjoy unlimited samples of beer, wines, seltzers and ciders from over 25 vendors at Oconomowoc Brewfest on Saturday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. inside the heated Bertrand Family Pavilion and support local scholarships, park improvements and Rotary initiatives.  The Waukesha Freeman

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Longtime educator and School Board member Barbara Ann Brzenk passed away Feb. 18 at age 88. She championed play in kindergarten and supported teachers, and visitation is today at Schramka Funeral Home (13220 W. Capitol Drive, Brookfield) with a funeral service at 2 p.m.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • At Tuesday’s Student Services Committee meeting, the Waukesha School District considered random drug testing for student-athletes; officials are reviewing procedures, costs, & enforcement measures modeled on neighboring districts. The proposal aims to deter drug use and promote student health while addressing logistical challenges.  The Waukesha Freeman

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Oconomowoc residents can soon schedule multiple bulk item pickups using a new contract with John's Disposal starting this summer; they must call or email ahead to arrange collection for bulky and electronic items as the program phases in on June 1.  The Waukesha Freeman

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Discount Liquor in downtown Waukesha hosted a tasting event for Yuengling beer on Tuesday—where visitors sampled and purchased America's oldest brew as brand ambassador Jasmin Sendejo reported about 30 cases sold in the first hour.  The Waukesha Freeman

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Marcus Corp. seeks City approval to build a new movie theater on a 16.5-acre parcel at Pabst Farms along Summit Avenue near Fleet Farm and I-94 westbound. The Plan Commission requested a revised layout, with input coming (March 17) at a public hearing.  Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

SPORTS NEWS

  • Family, friends and supporters in Oconomowoc gathered today at a watch party as wheelchair curler Laura Dwyer competed in mixed doubles at the 2026 Paralympic Games in Milan; another gathering is set for March 11 at the Kettle Moraine Curling Club in Delafield to cheer her on for a medal.  TMJ-4
