BUSINESS NEWS

  • Nearly two years after a 2024 fire reduced it to a shell, Oscar’s Frozen Custard in Brookfield is preparing to reopen in the third or fourth week of April (at 21165 E. Moreland Blvd.). The rebuilt space retains key features of the original and is also hiring 45 additional employees.  The Waukesha Freeman

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The spring school board race grows contentious as the district closed Bethesda, Hawthorne and Whittier schools to reduce capacity, and three seats are on the ballot April 7 amid ethics complaints over campaign conduct and conflicts of interest; candidate Carrillo and board member Voit have denied wrongdoing amid the controversy.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • Aiden Remiker, a fourth grader from Horizon Elementary School, competes in America's Favorite Student contest hosted by Bill Nye and could win a trip to meet him in California plus $20,000 for his education.  The Waukesha Freeman

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city will conduct its annual brush, branch, and leaf pickup (weather dependent) during the week of April 6 to April 10, and residents should have their items ready by 6 a.m. on their garbage collection day, placing them on the terrace.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • The Town of Brookfield Plan Commission recommended approving upgrades to Market Square at The Corners on Tuesday, including a new LED screen, enhanced stage, canopy, and updated paving to address aging infrastructure. Local property owners plan further work to boost venue use during community events & improve safety.  The Waukesha Freeman

HEALTH NEWS

  • Behavioral Health Clinic has opened a second location at 245 Regency Court No. 200A in Brookfield, offering in-person and telehealth appointments for children, teens and adults. Patients can access therapy, psychiatric care and comprehensive assessments without needing a referral.  The Waukesha Freeman

SPORTS NEWS

  • Former high school athletes from Waukesha County are set to compete this week starting Monday, Mar. 30. The matchups span several days at venues in New Berlin, Oconomowoc and Waukesha with game times mainly between 12 p.m. and mid-afternoon.  Waukesha Times
