COMMUNITY NEWS

  • William 'Bill' Oliver Jr. led Waukesha’s parks and recreation for 33 years until his death on March 19, leaving a lasting legacy marked by a youth sports complex named in his honor and a key to the city at his retirement.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • This weekend, families can join Easter events including Glow Skate at Eble Ice Arena Friday night in Brookfield and egg hunts at the YMCA, Okauchee Lions Park and Marx Park Saturday (online tickets required). Additional activities take place at the county expo center and public library.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • Residents can drop off pet supplies at five local fire stations during National Pet Month as part of the Fill the Fire Truck event to help the Humane Animal Welfare Society. Donors can also contribute money through the HAWS website.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • The Hartland Chamber of Commerce held its Kudos Awards at The Delafield Hotel, honoring former village president Dave Lamerand with the Lifetime Achievement Award for 26 years of service.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • Brookfield resident Ed Miklavcic, one of the last survivors of Pearl Harbor, turned 106 on Thursday. He shares his World War II memories and stands as a rare living link to history (only 12 survivors remain, per the Associated Press).  TMJ-4

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dixon Elementary held its annual Gallery Night and Empty Bowls event in Brookfield, raising over $6,000 for the Milwaukee Rescue Mission while showcasing student artwork and nature-inspired cardboard sculptures from its Artist in Residence program.  The Waukesha Freeman

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Waukesha residents can drop off yard waste, recyclables and garbage at 750 Sentry Drive; the center now offers Wednesday hours from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. until November and Saturday service from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.—fees have increased from $10 for a sedan to $100 for bulky items with new credit card and tap-to-pay options.  The Waukesha Freeman

HEALTH NEWS

  • Oconomowoc-based Lake Area Free Clinic has joined with ProHealth Care, Advocate Aurora and Rogers Behavioral Health to expand free health services for residents. The clinic now offers imaging, transportation and language support to ensure comprehensive care.  The Waukesha Freeman

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Recent listings in Waukesha County show a range of single-family homes that sold in February and March with prices from $220,000 to $2.25 million (covering areas like Brookfield, Delafield and Pewaukee).  The Waukesha Freeman
