COMMUNITY NEWS

  • For four years, no teen who completed Waukesha County Teen Court has committed another offense. The program lets young people handle small cases with peer guidance while serving community service (a model for local youth justice).  TMJ-4
  • Bridget Fogarty works as the Journal Sentinel’s west suburbs reporter + assistant editor and covers community meetings and local events in Wauwatosa, Brookfield, and Elm Grove.   • Waukesha is hosting the Boots and Badges charity basketball game today — the event pits local police against firefighters to raise funds for a good cause.  FOX6
  • Waukesha police and firefighters will face first responders from New Berlin and Brookfield in a charity basketball game on April 11 at Waukesha South High School – doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets cost $5 for adults and the event will raise funds to help feed local children.  FOX6

CRIME NEWS

  • On April 5, a 70-year-old man was arrested after an off-duty officer tipped police about his drunk driving from a restaurant/bar, and he threatened to shoot a deputy during transport—he appeared in court on April 7 with a $5,000 signature bond and faces a hearing on April 15.  FOX6
  • 37-year-old Oconomowoc man Phillip Pasholk resisted officers at a tavern on April 5 and is accused of causing over $7K damage to a Lac La Belle squad car—officers later recovered his property from the bar, including a blue glass smoking pipe with burnt residue and a substance that tested positive for THC, and he made his initial court appearance on April 7 with a cash bond set at $750.  FOX6

EDUCATION NEWS

  • State education officials warn that if state agencies do not certify they are not using diversity practices in 10 days, federal funds for schools are at risk and poorer districts like Milwaukee Public Schools could lose a large share of the $842 million that supports vital programs—this may cut jobs and essential services for low-income students.  Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
