Waukesha County District Attorney Lesli Boese said her office faces a crisis as grant funding for critical prosecutor positions will end on July 1—reducing the staff to 16—and the office must choose which criminals to prosecute amid severe understaffing.

In 2022, Medicaid transfers gave Waukesha residents an average of $865 each and totaled $355.12 million — 8.6% of all government funds.

Social Security transfers were the largest at $2.05 billion while Medicare transfers provided $1.24 billion, averaging $3,013 per person — showing the main sources of federal support.
