  • A Waukesha County court commissioner officiated his 1,000th courthouse wedding on April 14th—Lakesha Washington married Demetrius Patton as families gathered after Milwaukee stopped offering courthouse ceremonies. The milestone highlights how some couples cross county lines because local services continue despite canceled options elsewhere.  FOX6

CRIME NEWS

  • Waukesha police received a call at 7:25 p.m. on Sunday night after a device that looked like a hand grenade was found at the S. East Avenue—Rivera Drive intersection, and they closed the road for 1 hour 45 minutes—while the Milwaukee Hazardous Device Unit confirmed it was a fake.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • Two North Carolina men were charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court after they allegedly used a device to trick gambling machines at three Muskego locations into paying out money—if convicted, they may face over 13 years in prison.  The Waukesha Freeman

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Budget cuts have jeopardized the Lake Country School District band program. On April 11, the district notified families of staff cuts — including non-renewal notices for the band teacher—and parents plan to present an $80,000 donation later this month to help keep the program running.  FOX6

  • A Waukesha County court commissioner officiated his 1,000th courthouse wedding on April 14 — some couples crossed the county line to be married.  FOX6
  • Waukesha County residents are worried after the DA warned that a lack of prosecutors may force the office to not charge all crimes — her office lost 10.5 prosecutors and may lose two more this summer due to funding cuts.
