  • K9 Tesla, a therapy dog with Lake Country Fire and Rescue, died Monday after suffering a stroke in her spinal cord on April 9. She made over 2,300 visits in six years and her team will start a scholarship program — a tribute to her service.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • Waukesha County Court Commissioner Christopher Bailey performed his 1,000th wedding ceremony when he married Demetrius Patton and Lekisha Washington at the courthouse on Monday midday. Bailey said every wedding is important — the courthouse staff marked his milestone with a small reception as another couple prepared for their ceremony shortly after.  The Waukesha Freeman

  • Weiss Meats is a small-batch hand-crafted fresh sausage maker in Big Bend that makes beef sticks, summer sausage, brats — and Polish sausage. Brian Kramp visited the shop on April 15 to see the owner's passion for mixing meat.  FOX6
  • Chelsea and Juan Sanchez plan to reopen the former Eric’s Porter Haus as Mayor’s Restaurant at 229 Wisconsin Ave and will serve casual American and Italian dishes including pasta, sandwiches, steaks and a Friday fish fry — they aim to complete the remodel and open in May while also offering catering and hosting private events upstairs.  The Waukesha Freeman

CRIME NEWS

  • Zoe Arnold, a former employee of a Brookfield vet firm, was charged last month with computer crimes for breaking into patient records and altering data—her actions led to a state investigation.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • Waukesha police arrested a driver on Sunday morning after the operator crashed their car into a tree, pushed a parked car into a house and fled on foot—police said the driver was highly intoxicated and faced charges for operating while intoxicated, failure to control the vehicle, operating without a driver’s license and hit and run.  The Waukesha Freeman

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Work on I-94 in Lake Country resumed today as crews perform patch repairs, road markings, and install a new dynamic message sign—requiring overnight lane and ramp closures on both eastbound and westbound lanes. The $22.3 million project started in 2024 and will continue with final repairs and additional local road closures as weather allows.  Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
  • State lawmakers and advocates testified Tuesday in Madison on a bipartisan bill that would remove the sales tax on gun safes to improve secure gun storage—Governor Evers has proposed a similar change in his state budget. Lawmakers also debated a measure to give teachers a $300 tax credit for classroom supplies and training—state representatives said the measure would match a federal tax deduction.  CBS58

HEALTH NEWS

  • Delafield K-9 Tesla suffered a stroke on April 9 and her health has continued to decline despite treatment at Wisconsin Veterinary Referral Center (she has since received home care with treats and love). Lake Country Fire and Rescue Assistant Chief Matthew Haerter has established the K-9 Tesla Scholarship to support therapy dog programs (which logged over 2,300 visits in six years).  The Waukesha Freeman
