COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The new Lapham Lodge at Lapham Peak will open on May 17 at 10 a.m. in Delafield with a 5000 square feet space featuring a fireplace, multipurpose room and covered patio overlooking the trailhead — the building will later be turned over to the state parks system.  Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
  • A Waukesha County senior group, Learning in Retirement of Waukesha County Inc., is offering 30 classes a season from the basement of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hartland to help curb loneliness and depression among seniors by adding members and encouraging learning. The group will hold a fundraiser at Culvers on Capitol Drive in Brookfield on April 29 (10% of sales between 4-7 p.m. will be donated) to boost outreach and class participation.  FOX6

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Costco applied to open a new store on a 23 acre site in the Pabst Farms business park near Interstate 94 and Fleet Farm in Oconomowoc. City officials said the proposal is in early stages—few details have been provided.  Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
  • Brookfield resident Evan Nevels will debut his new pop-up, The Banana Dip, offering frozen bananas dipped in chocolate and topped with various ingredients at local farmers markets starting this summer, with sales at Brookfield on May 3 and Greenfield on May 4 (each treat costs $6). He will build on his experience from his avocado toast business to try and sell about 100 treats each market weekend.  Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Neil Keller, a CPA at Sikich, visited Pewaukee Lake Elementary in April to read to second graders about money and share tax tips with locals, urging them to keep all their paperwork and file an extension if needed—he noted that new tax law changes may come next year.  FOX6

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A new walkway will open Monday at the courthouse to give visitors a direct link from the front entrance to the court tower. Test runs show it will cut travel time from five minutes to one minute—replacing a confusing route marked by blue dots and extra stops.  TMJ-4
