COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Mukwonago will rebuild its historic Indianhead Park barn this summer using modern materials thanks to a $50,000 donation from the Kiwanis Club (and additional funding via a 2025 Vibrant Spaces Grant), which will create a new event and concession facility that engages local students and alumni in construction work.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • On April 7, the Elm Grove Woman’s Club donated $10,000 from its annual White Christmas Chandelier Ball (held Dec. 6, 2025) to the Center for Veterans Issues, and the gift will support local veterans with housing stability and essential services.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • Veterans have replaced the traditional Memorial Day parade with a solemn march to honor fallen service members. The march will start at 10 a.m. at the Dreyfus State Office parking lot and end at the Public Library, with local groups invited to join the reflective event.  TMJ-4

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Bass Bay Brewhouse plans to open a beer garden in Muskego after its December 2025 fire, pending Common Council approval. The proposal, announced on April 23, offers cold beer, cocktails, food trucks, live music, and kayak rentals — creating a family-friendly summer destination.  Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A Waukesha parent said her son will miss the May 9 prom at Waukesha West High School due to unclear attendance rules — rules that vary across district schools. District officials plan to align guidelines next year to give all students a fair chance.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • On April 14, the school board updated plans to transform Magee Elementary into a community center serving students and families. The proposal includes pre-kindergarten classes, expanded library hours, adult education, and weekend gym time — all with costs tied to property taxes.  The Waukesha Freeman

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Chief Michael Hartert retires from the Summit Police Department after a long career; a retirement party is scheduled from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on April 30 at the Summit Community Room (37100 Delafield Road) to honor his service.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • The Big Bend Plan Commission recommended a conditional use permit for the Breck Athletic Complex, a project set to turn farmland near Big Bend Road, Town Line Road & Skyline Drive into a regional youth sports venue. The Village Board will review the plan on May 7.  The Waukesha Freeman

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Wisconsin Department of Justice announced that today is National Drug Take Back Day in Waukesha County. Residents can drop off unused and expired medications at local sites including village halls, pharmacies, and police departments, with guidelines on packaging + prohibited items.  The Waukesha Freeman
