COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Waukesha Farmers Market returns today at 125 W. St. Paul Ave with an expanded lineup that includes 201 vendor applications, new food, produce and specialty items, and a Family Weekend featuring scavenger hunts (adding more fun for families) that will run through October. The Waukesha Freeman
- ➤ HAWSfest returns today at the new Waukesha County Expo Center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., offering dog-friendly activities, local food vendors, and meet-and-greet opportunities with adoptable animals. The Waukesha Freeman
- ➤ The Village Board approved phase one of the $175 million Breck Athletic Complex on land south of Townline Road, adding four turf fields for youth soccer and lacrosse. Construction begins this summer + an opposing group plans legal action and a Town Hall is set for the second Tuesday in May. The Waukesha Freeman
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Hahn Ace Hardware in Sussex opened April 29 with a new layout that features popular brands for grilling, power tools, and paint, replacing the former Sussex Ace store that closed in 2025; its grand opening runs May 8–10 and the store is hiring. Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
- ➤ Bass Bay Brewhouse in Muskego burned in December and is set to return with a planned beer garden opening early June — owner Ryan Oschmann said demolition has begun and plans for the restaurant rebuild will be submitted soon. TMJ-4
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Waukesha Co. farmer Jim Renn reports that rising diesel fuel costs are tightening his budget during planting season as he fills up twice daily on his tractors (using off-road fuel) and warns that higher expenses may eventually raise grocery prices. TMJ-4
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Rep. Scott Fitzgerald praised local student Quinn Steck (Arrowhead Union High School North) for winning the WI-05 Congressional Art Competition; her piece will be shown at the U.S. Capitol. He also tweeted on April 30 and May 1 urging a review to restore Judge Newman’s status from a multi-year suspension. Waukesha Times
- ➤ Cracks were spotted on two memorials honoring the Christmas Parade tragedy, and city officials (including a scheduled review with a structural engineer) are working to repair the downtown marker and Grede Park sculpture under warranty. Repairs are already in progress to ensure the sites continue to honor the victims. The Waukesha Freeman
- ➤ Big Bend village officials conditionally approved a first-phase plan for four soccer and lacrosse fields at the Breck Athletic Complex, with construction to begin in 2026 under strict parking, lighting, and noise rules; future phases, including extra fields and facilities, remain pending further community review (details to follow).
