COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Nev’s Ink announced that the Lombardi Bags Tournament will pause for one year as organizers balance life changes and business growth — ensuring a quality event for participants when it resumes next year.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • A local group of women known as the Blazing Babes meet weekly along the Ice Age Trail near DJ Mackie Picnic Area in Dousman to clear invasive species, mark trails, and fix erosion. They end their days with simple celebrations featuring wine and cheese.  TMJ-4
  • Oconomowoc Rotary Club passed its Bingo baton as longtime chair Ed Johnson handed bingo supplies to Bonnie Terrill for Shorehaven residents' bi-monthly event — a cherished tradition that brings joy to local seniors.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • Waterfront Wednesdays will return to Pewaukee Lakefront Park this summer, kicking off on June 3 at 6 p.m. and featuring free live music each Wednesday through July 29 (presented by Generac and organized by Pewaukee Parks & Rec).  The Waukesha Freeman

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Butler Middle School student riding a bike was hit by a car on Michigan Ave Wednesday morning and was taken to a hospital; the student remained alert as the school provided extra counseling for staff and students.  The Waukesha Freeman

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A boarded-up window next to a new fox mural at 300 W. Main St. continues to hurt Full Spectrum’s business after a December crash, and the owner says repairs will be done before busy summer events (local groups back the effort).  The Waukesha Freeman
  • Roots & Rails opened April 7 in Okauchee by Corey Brauch with a house-made menu and weekend specials. Also, Big Bear Deli closed in New Berlin, Panga Bar rebranded as Highwater, and Mama D’s Coffee will station its mobile trailer in Wales on weekends this summer (weather permitting).  The Waukesha Freeman

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Carroll University in Waukesha spent $591,346 on its football teams in 2024, a 5.2% decrease from the previous year — the expenditure made up 19.9% of the school's sports budget.  Waukesha Times
  • Seventeen Arrowhead High School students showcased their skills at the SkillsUSA conference in Merton, earning five medals and two state championships. Charlie Hansen and Gavin Monis won first-place titles, and Monis will represent Arrowhead at the National SkillsUSA Competition in Atlanta later this summer.  The Waukesha Freeman

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A crowd gathered at New Berlin City Hall on Wednesday night as the Board of Appeals listened to testimony on a challenge by citizens against a 120-bed recovery center approved as a community scale church — officials are set to rule on the appeal on June 2.  TMJ-4
  • In 2025, the FDA issued 34 citations at 12 companies (primarily in Devices and Biologics) tied to our area for lacking adequate quality procedures; companies must voluntarily correct their operations as detailed in public inspection reports.  Waukesha Times
  • In 2025, 38 companies in Waukesha County cities were inspected by the FDA, a 2.7% increase from the previous year (with most inspections focused on food, cosmetics, and devices). Inspection results showed that 63.2% met full compliance while 36.8% were advised to update management practices.  Waukesha Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • Aria of Brookfield led county nursing facilities in Q1 2026, serving about 100 residents a day with 170 beds — 81 above the county average. The center earned a 1 out of 5 rating and faced multiple fines.  Waukesha Times
  • In early 2026, Complete Care at Kensington was the second-largest nursing home in Waukesha County with 150 available beds and an average of 65.8 residents, according to CMS data; the facility also faced one penalty.  Waukesha Times
