- ➤ Data from USCIS shows that in 2024, 523 of 528 H-1B petitions filed by local employers were approved—an impressive 99.1% rate. The Information sector submitted 247 petitions while Manufacturing firms filed 175, both achieving higher approval rates than the national average. Waukesha Times

- ➤ New Berlin West Spanish teacher Jessica Santiago was named Global Educator of the Year by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction on May 20 (she has 23 years of teaching experience) at an event attended by school and state officials. She will receive a scholarship to represent Wisconsin on a site visit to Rome (this trip is supported by the Council on International Educational Exchange). The Waukesha Freeman

- ➤ State Rep. Scott Allen and Rep. Adam Neylon introduced a budget motion that directs the Wisconsin Department of Transportation to award three grants — totaling over $11 million — for key road projects in Waukesha. - ➤ The Common Council unanimously approved a memorandum of understanding to set procedures for fast damage assessments following disasters in the county.
