- ➤ Police + firefighters played against first responders at Waukesha South High School in April in the Boots and Badges charity basketball game, which raised $4,726 for local groups by splitting the funds evenly between the Housing Action Coalition and Blessings in a Backpack. FOX6
- ➤ Volunteer Louisa Rank earned Habitat for Humanity's Volunteer of the Year award for her service since 2018, logging 489 hours in 2024 plus leading 10 volunteers in North Carolina to rebuild homes after Hurricane Helene. She will be honored next month at Habitat's Dream Builders Gala as work on the Dominica Park project nears completion to house 20 families by 2026. FOX6

- ➤ In Oconomowoc, Journey21 held a graduation ceremony for students who completed the Life Academy Program with around 260 guests. Marquette coach Shaka Smart delivered the keynote speech—emphasizing the students' new skills for independent living. FOX6
- ➤ New Berlin's 12-year-old Ethan Robert from Eisenhower Middle School finished 10th at the Scripps National Spelling Bee — one of only two students chosen from Wisconsin — and said he loved getting on stage to spell. TMJ-4
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Representative Scott Allen from Waukesha and co-sponsors sent a budget motion to the Joint Finance Committee to require the state to pay 100% of the agreed costs for police, fire and waste services on state buildings—this change would raise municipal payments by $31 million a year. Allen said the state must meet its statutory commitment to help reduce local property taxes. The Waukesha Freeman
- ➤ The Village Board discussed a conceptual food truck ordinance after Catholic Memorial’s Sullivan Campus requested food trucks at its athletic fields while its concession area was being built. The proposed ordinance, modeled after rules in Sussex and Muskego, would require each vendor to secure an annual, nontransferable permit—subject to county health inspection and a 100-foot operating boundary from other food establishments.
