- ➤ A former Chicago man was sentenced to two years in prison on Monday for stealing nearly $100,000 worth of catalytic converters from a New Berlin business in 2023 (he pleaded guilty to felony criminal damage to property) while his sentence runs concurrently with another he is already serving and two co-defendants now face arrest warrants. - ➤ A Milwaukee man, 27-year-old Maximiliano Mendez, was sentenced to two years in prison—ordered to pay nearly $19,475 in restitution and to serve three years of extended supervision—after prosecutors said he took nearly $20,000 from an 87-year-old Brookfield woman in a telephone scam. FOX6
- ➤ A Pewaukee man, David Lundt, 41, was released on a $5,000 signature bond in Waukesha County after he reportedly pulled a knife and threatened to shoot neighbors during a parking dispute last Friday along Prospect Avenue—he is due in court on June 26. The Waukesha Freeman
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ At its Wednesday night meeting, the School District of Waukesha proposed four planning options that will change grade layouts and close some buildings to cut capacity by 10%—15% as student numbers drop. The district will host input sessions at the Blair Administration Building and offer a survey on its website—signups will be available soon. The Waukesha Freeman
- ➤ The Kettle Moraine School District Board of Education voted unanimously on June 11 to close Magee Elementary School in Genesee Depot starting in fall 2026 — the decision came after long financial reviews that showed fewer students and less money, with possible deficits by 2026-27. The district will work with families, students and staff next year to plan a smooth transition to the remaining schools. FOX6

- ➤ The Joint Village of Waukesha Plan Commission and Village Board will consider a new mobile food vendor ordinance today at 6:30 p.m. at W250S3567 Center Rd., which requires food trucks to secure a valid annual permit, operate between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m., maintain a 100 feet distance from licensed food facilities unless authorized, and pay $300 before Aug. 1 or $150 on or after Aug. 1. - ➤ Two Waukesha County hemp dispensary owners are urging tougher regulations after two Milwaukee children, ages 4 and 9, were hospitalized after eating cannabis gummies that looked like candy—each owner already marks THC products and enforces a 21 minimum age to protect public safety.
