COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Officials in Pewaukee met Tuesday to address problems at Pewaukee Beach as more people visit this summer—residents and business owners have raised concerns about crowded conditions and unsafe driving. Police have increased patrols and will repaint crosswalks next week—these steps aim to keep the area safe for everyone.  TMJ-4

  • Angie Whipple of RedBud Acres LLC said her camera recorded a thief using a taped ruler to take cash and goods from her self-serve farm stand in Eagle this week+ she filed a report with the Waukesha County Sheriff's Office.  TMJ-4

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fourth-grade students at Marcy Elementary spent a month designing and building cardboard arcade games in a STEM project, and families visited the school on Arcade Day to play them. Teacher Julie Greenwald said the project helped students learn to try new ideas and build confidence — a sign of growing grit and creativity.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • Brittany Larson is the new Bridges Library System director for 24 libraries serving Jefferson and Waukesha counties—she said that funding is a major concern as libraries support important services. She also announced summer events that will boost reading and fun, including a Journey of Dragons challenge that runs through Aug. 29.  The Waukesha Freeman

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Families in Waukesha are set to face higher child care costs when the state's Child Care Counts program expires at the end of June. Local providers warn that without replacement funding, rates will rise to cover staff and quality care—forcing some parents to pull their children from day care.  TMJ-4
  • Waukesha Common Council will consider a plan to create two designated outdoor refreshment areas—one covering downtown and another along Williams Street—to allow outdoor alcohol consumption only at special events. The council will also propose raising penalties for code violations and adjusting the Municipal Court bond schedule, with the meeting held at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Council Chambers, City Hall.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • Today, the Waukesha County Public Works Committee recommended ending commuter bus routes 904 and 905 connecting Lake Country communities (Oconomowoc, Delafield, Pewaukee) to downtown Milwaukee due to declining ridership, with service set to end on Sept. 27. The ordinance will go to the County Finance Committee at 8:35 a.m. today and be reviewed by the County Board on June 24 at 7 p.m. at the county courthouse in Room 2-1200 (515 W.   • On Saturday, nearly 2,000 people in Waukesha and 1,000 in Brookfield joined No Kings events—peaceful protests where demonstrators carried signs and flags to oppose immigration and executive power policies while local police maintained safety during a national demonstration.  The Waukesha Freeman
