COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Nev's Ink will host the 10th annual bags tournament on June 22 at 2500 W. Sunset Drive from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to raise funds for the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation with a goal of $60,000 for cancer research and care (the family-friendly event will include a silent auction, bounce house, raffles, and live music by Eddy Butts Band).  The Waukesha Freeman
  • Today, Waukesha holds a Civic Band Concert at the Les Paul Performance Center from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. and a St. Mary Parish Church Festival starting at 5 p.m. with fireworks at dusk, while nearby towns host live music, craft fairs and food events throughout the weekend (details vary by location).  The Waukesha Freeman

  • A Milwaukee woman, 24, is accused of stealing over $54,000 in cash from Delafield Target over 10 months last year—she will appear in court on July 10 to face theft charges.  The Waukesha Freeman

CULTURE NEWS

  • For more than 60 years, the Miss Wisconsin competition was held in Oshkosh — now it will move to New Berlin where it is expected to boost the local economy by drawing visitors. The final competition will take place Saturday at New Berlin West Performing Arts Center and gives contestants a chance to earn scholarship money.  TMJ-4

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Hamilton High School students shared books with Maple Avenue Elementary second-graders on June 9 after gathering artwork in May for an AP English Language project—students worked together to turn the drawings into two creative stories that emphasize understanding and friendship.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • Waukesha County Technical College expanded its University Center at WCTC—located in Building L, Room L-117—to help local students earn and advance their degrees in partnership with UWM. The center is hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony today at 1 p.m. to mark the new local education option.  The Waukesha Freeman

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Waukesha County lawmakers approved a budget motion from state representatives to boost funding for the county prosecutor’s office by adding six full-time assistant district attorneys to ease heavy caseloads—this motion also includes a total of 42 new prosecutor positions across 23 counties but still requires final approval from the Legislature and governor.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • Day care providers in Waukesha are preparing for possible rate hikes as state funding is set to expire in two weeks without a clear replacement to cover essential costs. Lawmakers are proposing options like zero-percent interest loans and relaxed regulations, but a postponed meeting and differing views leave small businesses and parents facing uncertainty.  TMJ-4
  • The Pewaukee Village Board met on Tuesday to discuss overcrowding, litter, and bad language at Pewaukee Beach and raised safety issues after visitors were reported crossing the road outside crosswalks—police will increase their presence between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. to help address the concerns.  The Waukesha Freeman
