ACCIDENTS NEWS

CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Adam Malinski, 48—formerly homeless—entered pleas of no contest for a downtown stabbing from last August and for spitting on a correctional officer in March, and he faces sentencing on Aug. 21 with the state recommending 6-7 years of confinement plus 30 more days for possessing a concealed knife. - ➤ Waukesha authorities charged a local man with robbery—he arranged an online deal to buy high-end fashion accessories and allegedly threatened the seller—and the investigation is ongoing. The Waukesha Freeman
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Three women earned top honors and scholarships at the first night of preliminaries for the 2025 Miss Wisconsin Competition at New Berlin West High School Performing Arts Center—Miss Sugar Maple Evelyn Green, Miss La Crosse/Oktoberfest Savannah Grace Horstman, and Miss Racine Willow Newell—with the event continuing tonight as more awards are announced for a chance to join the top 11 finalists. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ After UWM at Waukesha closed at the end of last semester, WCTC partnered with UWM to let local students earn a four-year degree close to home. The new center will offer fall courses in social work and business (with at least 60 credits transferring) (providing a smoother path to a bachelor's degree). FOX6
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State Rep. Barbara Dittrich from Oconomowoc had her motion approved to boost funding for recovery high schools by 50% (over the biennium) to help students recovering from substance use and other disorders. Her measure supports programs in her 99th Assembly District (covering parts of Lake Country and nearby areas). The Waukesha Freeman
- ➤ Waukesha City Council gave positive feedback to a plan that would allow adults to drink in designated outdoor refreshment areas during events, with a trial run planned at smaller events before a potential full rollout at Friday Night Live in 2026. Council members said the plan would promote safer drinking and involve no city costs—most oversight would come from the Downtown Business Association, and the proposal will come back for a third reading soon.
