COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Waukesha County Fair will run from July 16–20 and will add new food trucks—such as Cousins Maine Lobster offering lobster rolls and grilled cheese dishes—to its lineup alongside returning vendors. Fair officials said the updated food menu is set to provide fairgoers with a mix of new flavors and favorite treats.  Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

BUSINESS NEWS

  • First Student in Waukesha is holding a recruitment event on July 10 at Waukesha North High School to hire 15 school bus drivers for the fall after a catalyst theft from 20 buses led the company to boost security—prospective drivers will have a chance to test drive a bus and see the flexible work options offered.  FOX6

CRIME NEWS

  • A Hartford man who managed a Walgreens store in Sussex was charged with stealing over $47,000 from deposits and released on a $5,000 bond — he is set to appear in court on July 15 and faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • Staff at Wisconsin Memorial Park are preparing for the funeral procession of fallen Milwaukee Police Officer Kendall Corder, who died June 29 after an ambush. Cemetery staff will manage eight miles of road & guide hundreds of vehicles, including police from several cities, to safely pay their respects at his final resting place after his funeral at Elmbrook Church on Friday.  TMJ-4

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today at 6:30 p.m., the Arrowhead School Board met at the district office boardroom to vote on whether to study changes to its cellphone policy—most members agreed to keep the current rules on personal devices unless a future need arises. The board reviewed reports and a presentation on phone-lock bags but did not propose new restrictions.  The Waukesha Freeman

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Waukesha County is holding an open-house meeting today at Sussex Civic Center—where county officials will present details on Lisbon Road improvements, including highway capacity, safety, and the proposed widening to four lanes, and invite public input. The meeting runs from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. with a presentation at 5:00 p.m., and comments on a related amendment are due by July 25.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • The Menomonee Falls Village Board voted Monday to plan a $35.8 million project to expand the police department and build a new public safety training center. About 70% of the funds will come from fees on new development and the rest by a 20-year debt levy— a public meeting is scheduled for August to discuss the plan.  TMJ-4
  • County Executive Paul Farrow criticized Gov. Tony Evers for a state budget that will be signed early Thursday morning for not funding an $8 million study to expand I-94 to six lanes in western Waukesha County—Farrow cited high vehicle use and recent fatal crashes and said he will work with the Legislature and DOT to boost roadway safety.  The Waukesha Freeman

  • Colt the Bat Dog will return for his fourth season as the official bat dog for the DockHounds at Wisconsin Brewing Park in Oconomowoc. The border collie—trained by Kate Bucci—has delighted fans by retrieving bats since 2016 and will perform during the first three innings on July 16, Aug. 16 and Aug. 24.  The Waukesha Freeman
