COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Hartland Chamber of Commerce will host a street dance in downtown Hartland on Aug. 23 at 3 p.m. The event will offer music and dancing (with live local bands) and aims to bring families together for fun.  The Waukesha Freeman

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Montana-based outdoor gear maker MeatEater, Inc. will open a new 3,700-square-foot store in early fall at 340 N. Lord St. in Brookfield—its second retail location following the flagship in Bozeman, offering technical hunting apparel, fishing accessories and exclusive products along with in-store events for local hunters and anglers.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • Madison-based Forage Kitchen will open its 10th restaurant at The Corridor in Brookfield by the end of the year. The new fast-casual restaurant — located at 350 Discovery Drive — will serve grain bowls, salads and wraps from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.  Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

CRIME NEWS

  • Dean Piskula Jr., 36, from Concord was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court with seven misdemeanor counts for not telling Summit Elementary—Oconomowoc that he is a registered sex offender when he visited his child's school several times last spring; he must appear in court on July 24.  The Waukesha Freeman

CULTURE NEWS

  • Lake Country Playhouse & Academy is marking its 65th anniversary with Curtain’s Up!—a benefit concert running July 17 to 19 at its Hartland venue where local performers will present Broadway-style numbers and guests can enjoy a preshow reception, silent auction, and live music. Ticket prices start at $35 online or $40 at the door and all proceeds support year-round arts education and programming.  The Waukesha Freeman

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Waukesha County Community Foundation awarded more than $1 million in scholarships so far this year — totaling $1,091,394 compared to last year’s $899,165.45 — and assumed stewardship of 30 funds from UW at Waukesha after its campus closed; students are now encouraged to plan ahead by speaking with their school counselors or local education foundations.  The Waukesha Freeman
