- ➤ Neighbors in Oconomowoc started a petition after playground equipment was removed from Hawthorne Ridge Park earlier in July, asking officials to keep it in its current location because many feel it is safer. City leaders say moving the playground a quarter mile away will offer better visibility and access—though some residents worry that the new spot may be too close to traffic. TMJ-4
- ➤ The Mieden family will host their 3rd Annual LemonAID Stand for Hearing Aids on Aug 14 from 9 a.m. to noon and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at 1302 Heather Circle in Oconomowoc. The event offers free lemonade, face painting—glitter tattoos from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and a bounce house, with all proceeds going to the UW Speech and Hearing Clinic and Chasing Greatness as they aim to raise $2,500—benefiting children in need of hearing technology and care. - ➤ A homeowner in the Village of Merton reported a smoke-filled house with her daughter inside on Tuesday at 9:50 a.m. on Highway E—fire crews found light smoke at a second-floor vent, a closet wall cavity fire, and determined the child was at summer school while one person was taken to the hospital after a delayed response from a Hartling Road bridge closure—and they are investigating the cause. - ➤ We Energies repurposed an old utility pole at Zachariah's Acres in Oconomowoc to create an osprey nest—one of dozens installed since 1980 to help birds that lack their natural dead tree nests.
