ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Sunday afternoon, the Village of Waukesha Fire Department responded to a garage fire at 1:44 p.m. at 54-W25715 Hazelhurst Lane where the blaze spread into the home, causing heavy damage to the garage with only limited smoke and water damage to the residence; 23 mutual aid departments assisted and no one was injured.  The Waukesha Freeman

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Delafield Plan Commission will consider plans to combine Applebee’s and IHOP at 3100 Golf Rd after the building sat vacant since May — and it will also review Blue Collar Coffee’s proposal to expand its space on Milwaukee and Genesee streets. The proposals will be discussed at a meeting Wednesday at 7 p.m. in City Hall Council Chambers at 500 Genesee St.  The Waukesha Freeman

CRIME NEWS

  • A Waukesha man, Sean Couture+25+, pleaded no contest to first-degree intentional homicide on July 25 after fatally shooting his grandmother+74+ near Garfield on Douglass on August 25, and he was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison with eligibility for release after serving 26 years as her death marked the city’s first homicide in nearly three years.  FOX6
  • A 17-year-old Waukesha teen with a learner’s permit is accused of driving while intoxicated — hitting a woman who was walking her dog before speeding away.  The Waukesha Freeman

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City leaders in Delafield met on July 21 to review four fire and EMS options amid rising costs, staffing shortages, and limited control under the current LCFR agreement—officials will request a proposal from Western Lakes Fire District in September.  TMJ-4
  • WisDOT has proposed a new diverging diamond interchange at County F on Redford Boulevard and I-94 to ease congestion and improve safety, drawing varied reactions from regular drivers. The project is in the design phase and construction could begin in 2028—community input will be accepted at a public meeting on August 5 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  TMJ-4
