COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Hebron Housing Services and the Humane Animal Welfare Society launched the Waukesha County Family Pet Care Program to help families facing homelessness keep their pets by covering veterinary care, boarding, and pet-related fees — the program is funded by an anonymous donor through United Way.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • Pop’s Custard will close on August 31 after 45 years serving Menomonee Falls due to rising food and labor costs and a long COVID recovery — longtime customers and former owner Sharon Whitman remembered the shop as a cherished local tradition. The current owners have put the business up for sale in hopes that a new buyer will continue its legacy.  TMJ-4

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Investigators from the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department completed the review of a January accident in Sussex where a 5-year-old boy fell in front of a school bus as it began moving and ruled the death accidental with no charges or citations issued — they also confirmed that neither drugs, alcohol nor phone use played a role.  FOX6

CRIME NEWS

  • Olivia Kobb, 20, pleaded not guilty to five felony bail jumping charges in Waukesha County after missing her court appearance—she is accused of making threats linked to the Arrowhead prom and a local animal shelter.  The Waukesha Freeman

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mukwonago Area School District filed a brief arguing that the 7th Circuit should overturn its earlier decision blocking a policy that requires students to use the bathroom matching the sex they were assigned at birth—citing a recent Supreme Court case. A reply brief is due on Sept. 2 as the case moves through the federal appeals court.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • Parents and community members will rally at 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 13 at Blair Administration Building—bringing families and signs—to share their views on the district’s plan to consolidate schools. At 6:30 p.m., the board meeting will invite public comments on four proposals that may include school closures, grade reconfigurations and redistricting.  The Waukesha Freeman

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has reminded eligible hunters with disabilities to contact a hunt landowner sponsor by Sept.15 to join the Gun Deer Hunt that will run from Oct.4 to Oct.12 — participants must have a valid gun deer license and disabled permit and can sign up for only one sponsored property each year.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • Transportation officials with WisDOT have proposed a diverging diamond interchange at County Highway F and I-94 to ease congestion—local business owners worry it will limit access to their shops during construction. Officials plan to hold more public meetings as the project remains in design and construction is expected to begin in 2028.  TMJ-4
