CRIME NEWS

  • The Waukesha County Jail intake area was temporarily closed Monday evening after a white powdery substance was found on an arrested person — intake operations resumed by 11:30 p.m. with no injuries reported.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • The Waukesha County Sheriff's Office arrested a 19-year-old driver on Tuesday after his dark-colored SUV used blue flashing lights to clear traffic on I-43 near Big Bend Drive—no traffic stops were attempted during the stop.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • An 18-year-old man was re-arrested after refusing to leave a stranger's car parked one block from Waukesha County Jail 15 hours after his release.  FOX6

EDUCATION NEWS

  • After catalytic converter thefts last school year, school officials met with First Student on Tuesday to review safety updates including an electric fence—rated at 7,000—10,000 volts—and round-the-clock security guards for the bus lot. First Student also upgraded bus camera systems and detailed plans to add more drivers through training programs and bonus incentives for 75 bus routes starting this fall.  The Waukesha Freeman

  • Tuesday, the Oconomowoc Council approved expanding the boundaries of Tax Incremental Financing District No. 7 Olympia Fields by adding two parcels and 16.23 acres for the redevelopment of the former Olympia ski hill and golf course area. Developers plan to create The Social, a 60000 square foot venue, and Elevate, a mixed use project with luxury apartments and retail + the estimated tax incremental financing investment is about $24,136,000.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • Waukesha County launched interactive budget forums today as County Executive Paul Farrow returned to work after his cancer treatment—he will guide the process by gathering public input on the upcoming county budget—ensuring residents can voice their ideas.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • Waukesha Police Officer Jack Daily was in Arizona near Fort Huachuca for Army Reserve training when a routine hike turned dangerous and he helped rescue a stranded hiker—officials say his prompt action made a critical difference.  The Waukesha Freeman
