ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A second storm early Tuesday caused more damage in Waukesha County when an 80-foot, 100-year-old maple tree fell in a Sussex backyard, narrowly missing a home and striking cemetery tombstones, adding to flooded basements from weekend flash floods as residents brace for more rain.  TMJ-4
  • A lightning-triggered fire damaged a Town of Delafield home on Aug. 12, causing $300,000 in damage and displacing three residents—fire crews arrived at 5:51 a.m. and had the blaze under control by 7 a.m.—with one firefighter sustaining minor injuries.  Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A golf fundraiser is set for Aug. 27 at Ironwood Golf Course in Sussex to support Cristo Rey Jesuit High School students with scholarships for college. Spectrum Investment Advisors started the event in memory of Rick Danning—who passed away unexpectedly—and will include prizes and other activities.  TMJ-4

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Waukesha County officials report that floods have caused an estimated $2 million in damage to county roads while the Emergency Operations Center remains open to share updates. Municipalities work with crews to inspect roads, remove debris, and check safety — residents are advised to follow local updates for further information.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • Merton Millpond Dam is in a Level 2 Emergency State for a high potential failure but has not yet breached—WI DNR and local authorities will reinforce the dam while advising residents and businesses along the Bark River to monitor rising water levels.  The Waukesha Freeman

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Waukesha County Executive Paul Farrow declared a state of emergency Monday as the Fox River neared record flood levels that were predicted to reach 8.8 feet Tuesday morning—city workers placed trucks with gravel and metal on the Barstow Street bridge to protect nearby structures.  FOX6
  • In early July, the Common Council approved a DORA ordinance that permits outdoor alcohol consumption in designated downtown zones—however, it does not apply to Friday Night Live this year. Officials and business leaders explained that the measure will be tested during smaller events with full implementation planned for 2026.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • Rep. Scott Fitzgerald updated locals on August 10 and 12 about flash flooding in Milwaukee, Waukesha and Washington Counties and requested an Emergency Declaration to secure needed resources. He also said tariffs are lowering price growth and helping create American jobs—linking flood response with economic policy.  Waukesha Times
  • State officials approved a $1.5 million project to replace a bridge and resurface one mile of Wisconsin Avenue from Plank Road to Brown Street by reconstructing the bridge over the Oconomowoc River and adding new guardrails, signage, and pavement markings. Work will begin on Monday, Aug. 18 and is scheduled to finish by late 2025—local traffic will use a detour while the Oconomowoc River kayak launch is closed during construction.  FOX6
  • WisDOT held its first public meeting in Waukesha to discuss plans to convert the Highway F interchange over Interstate 94 into a diverging diamond interchange — a design aimed at easing heavy traffic and improving safety. Dan Sellers said the project will upgrade bridges, signage, and signals — and more public meetings will be scheduled to gather community feedback.  The Waukesha Freeman
