ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Nice Ash in downtown Waukesha is not expected to reopen until September after a water heater exploded on Aug.3, causing water to damage the building at 323 and 327 W. Main St.—a restoration team is now removing damaged materials and drying the space to prevent mold. The Waukesha Freeman
- ➤ On Aug. 11, first responders and bystanders rescued a father and his son in Menomonee Falls from the fast-moving Menomonee River near Lime Kiln Park after they entered the water to save their dog, Lulu—officials urged people to avoid swift water due to its danger. TMJ-4
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Local law enforcement confirmed that the Merton Millpond Dam is in a level two emergency state—indicating a high potential for failure as engineers assess significant erosion. The Wisconsin DNR expects to reinforce the dam while residents along the Bark River closely watch water levels in the floodplain. CBS58
- ➤ Pewaukee officials announced that flooding from the weekend has forced road closures along the Pewaukee River—including Oakton Avenue near Village Hall—and imposed a no-wake order on the lake to protect shorelines. - ➤ A $1.5 million project to replace and resurface a mile of Wisconsin Avenue will begin Monday, Aug. 18 in Waukesha County. The work— which includes rebuilding the bridge over the Oconomowoc River, installing a new guardrail, signage, pavement markings, and a detour for local traffic— is expected to finish by late 2025.
