ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire at The Meadows Apartments on Springdale Road on Monday afternoon displaced six families and caused over $200,000 in damage — local mom Alyssa Schnoebelen, who was at work with her children, said she saw her whole life in flames and is now trying to rebuild after losing her home.  TMJ-4
  • A 59-year-old man died after his vehicle ended up in a flooded ditch on Tuesday morning in Pewaukee near eastbound Highway KE as multiple calls were received at 5:31 a.m. and state and local responders arrived while the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office investigates the crash.  The Waukesha Freeman

CRIME NEWS

  • A Waukesha County jury found Glendale resident Martha Brown guilty of first degree intentional homicide for killing longtime New Berlin acquaintance Richard Platt in his home in 2024 and she is now in custody awaiting a Nov. 20 sentencing that could result in a life prison term.  Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

CULTURE NEWS

  • Waukesha resident Albumman Compton legally changed his name in 2005 because of his passion for collecting vinyl—he now holds over 23,000 records and 38,000 autographs in his attic and plans to pass his collection to his daughter and grandchildren.  TMJ-4

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Statewide education leaders said that frequent changes to school report cards made it hard to see how students were doing and urged the state to set up a steadier system—WSLE noted that shifting scores hide true performance. The Kettle Moraine School Board approved the resolution on July 15—more districts are expected to back the call for lasting benchmarks.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • Carroll University will welcome over 800 first-year students on Friday during Move-In Day—breaking its enrollment record.   • A new ordinance in Pewaukee gives police the power to fine students and parents for bullying online or in person—fines start at $100 and rise to $250 for repeat offenses as officials work to ensure immediate action.  TMJ-4
  • Gov Tony Evers requested a presidential disaster declaration after severe storms and flooding caused over $33 million in damage across Wisconsin, including in Waukesha. The request, filed on August 27, seeks FEMA assistance for both individual and public programs—aimed at repairing homes and public property.  CBS58
