COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Volunteers with the National Ski Patrol are training at Ausblick Ski Club in Sussex this weekend to practice high-risk rescues and emergency care for the upcoming ski season—Harken Safety and Rescue from Pewaukee is helping supply safety equipment and further sessions at Bradford Beach in Milwaukee. The intensive drills focus on preparing the team for a range of emergencies on the slopes.  TMJ-4

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters from several departments answered a call on Red Wing Drive at around 3:30 p.m. Thursday — all residents were safe despite fire, smoke, and water damage, with crews still investigating the cause.  The Waukesha Freeman

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Milwaukee Tool will invest $42 million to expand its operations in Menomonee Falls and create about 300 high-skill jobs in coming years. Gov. Tony Evers and the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation said the state will offer up to $4.5 million in performance-based tax credits — support that will help drive growth across Wisconsin.  The Waukesha Freeman

  • The Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts announced that Executive Director Sandy Wysocki will retire at the end of 2025, ending a long tenure that strengthened community programs. The board has begun its search for a new leader and will host a celebration later this year — marking her lasting impact.  The Waukesha Freeman

ECONOMY NEWS

  • After the historic flood on Aug. 10, many local families and business owners discovered their home and renters policies did not cover water damage, and one small business owner said her claim was denied after sewer backup ruined her equipment+ a state insurance official urged residents to file claims to help with FEMA assistance.  The Waukesha Freeman

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A judge ruled Friday that Arrowhead High School senior Tristen Seidl may play varsity football this fall — with a temporary injunction stopping the WIAA from banning him while his eligibility case remains under review after his family moved several times due to a house fire.  TMJ-4
  • At Arrowhead Union High School in Town of Merton, students achieved the highest ACT scores in five years and improved AP exam results after the new alternate-day block schedule was introduced—teachers credit the extra resource period, digital test prep, and required 11th grade English with reducing test anxiety and boosting performance.  The Waukesha Freeman

  • High school football teams in Wisconsin began conference play on Friday after two weeks of nonconference games. In Waukesha, Waukesha West played Arrowhead — reporters are now covering scores and highlights from key regional matchups.  Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
