COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A dozen local groups are offering help to victims of the August floods in Waukesha County — federal dollars have not yet arrived to fund relief. These groups support affected residents until the promised federal aid is provided.  FOX6
  • Tonight, the Bell Tower Memorial holds a dedication ceremony at 5 p.m. at Pewaukee Kiwanis Village Park, 325 Capitol Drive to honor those affected by 9/11 and remember lost loved ones; the event features a ceremonial tribute by the American Legion Honor Guard and a wreath laying by Boy Scouts of Troop 81 — the nearly complete memorial has been years in the making.  The Waukesha Freeman

  • Sentry Equipment Corp. in Oconomowoc celebrates its 100th anniversary today by evolving from making milk evaporators to producing equipment for power plants and water treatment facilities. The company will keep innovating as utilities invest in expansion—furthering its global reach.  TMJ-4

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Waukesha school board members advanced plans to close or merge schools as part of the Optimizing Our Future initiative—this move drew pushback from parents who said the changes would affect commute times, programs, and support services, and they called for an impact study before a final decision is made. Board members said no final changes will occur until the 2026–27 school year while they analyze proposals and community input.  TMJ-4

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local lawmakers and business leaders in Waukesha welcomed a stay order from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit that paused the air quality reclassification—officials said the ruling will maintain current standards as further review proceeds.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • Brookfield's Common Council passed an ordinance that bans hemp-derived cannabinoid product sales to anyone under 21 and requires that sales occur inside licensed retail stores—kiosk owner Bill Fuchs said his Brookfield Square Mall kiosk stopped sales on September 6 while his other kiosks and online orders remain available.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • Village officials and Keller Inc. are moving ahead with plans for a new public safety and administration facility on the property at 550 Hartbrook Drive in Hartland, acquired using eminent domain from Waukesha State Bank — they will share design updates and budget details at a public meeting on Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. at Village Hall.  The Waukesha Freeman

  • The Green Bay Packers defeated the Washington Commanders 27-18 on Thursday night as Jordan Love threw for 292 yards and two touchdowns while Tucker Kraft had a career-high 124 receiving yards & helped secure the win. The Packers honored legendary receiver Sterling Sharpe at halftime and now prepare to visit Cleveland on Sept.21.  CBS58
