- ➤ Blessings in a Backpack will hold its 'Bridge the Gap' fundraising gala on Oct. 9 at the Milwaukee Marriott West in Pewaukee to raise funds so local kids get food on weekends. Nearly 300 guests, including local business & community leaders, will join the event, which will support weekend meal programs for over 4,000 students across 60 schools and expand its reach into new counties. - ➤ A Waukesha neighborhood that experienced severe flooding in August is under city review for poor stormwater management—residents said they warned the city about drainage issues in July before they were forced to evacuate. TMJ-4

- ➤ Dozens of people gathered at a memorial at the local Turning Point Action in Waukesha to honor Charlie Kirk after police arrested suspect Tyler Robinson (22) for his killing. TMJ-4

- ➤ Brooklyn Jones, a Carroll University student from Big Bend, has been named one of 18 US Foods Scholars and will receive a $20,000 culinary scholarship along with career development help to build skills for running her family restaurant. The Waukesha Freeman
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Federal Emergency Management Agency announced that Wisconsin residents affected by severe storms and flooding from August 9 to 12 can now request disaster assistance for temporary housing, home repairs and low-cost loans. Governor Tony Evers requested a disaster declaration after an assessment estimated over $33 million in damage in Milwaukee, Washington and Waukesha counties —federal coordinator Hannah Penn leads recovery efforts— and residents should file claims with their insurance providers before applying.
