- ➤ A Taylor Swift-themed fundraiser will be held at 5 p.m. Oct. 3 at Mon Bijou in Oconomowoc to honor Brayleigh King, a 7-year-old who died from brain cancer in 2022, and to raise money for The Cure Starts Now Foundation. Attendees will enjoy special cocktails, snacks, music, and prizes—donations at the door will help fight pediatric brain cancer. The Waukesha Freeman
- ➤ Holy Apostles Anglican Church in Pewaukee appointed Rev. Scott Eddlemon as its new rector—he is a Nashotah House graduate ordained as a deacon and expected to be ordained as a priest in December—succeeding Rev. Canon John Armstrong who will continue as an associate priest. The Waukesha Freeman
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ On Sept. 1, a new vaping law forced small shops to sell only products on a state list and left many owners with about sixty to seventy percent of their inventory unsellable. A lawsuit by an organization called WiscoFAST seeks to block the rule as shop owners warn that the restrictions may force more businesses to close while Rep. Scott Allen and health advocates say the law keeps dangerous products away from youth. The Waukesha Freeman
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Tony Evers thanked first responders and advocates after FEMA approved federal disaster aid for areas hit by severe storms and flooding in August. The aid—$29.8 million in support—will help residents and businesses with temporary housing, repairs and low-cost loans while further damage assessments continue. The Waukesha Freeman

- ➤ Jack Gohlke, a well-known basketball player from Pewaukee, led a camp for local kids where he was proud to see his name on their T-shirts, and he shared his plans to play pro basketball in Brazil as he chases his NBA dream.
