COMMUNITY NEWS

  • During August floods, Doodle’s Ranch and Sanctuary received over four feet of water in its basement—contractors discovered severe foundation damage, including a bowed wall and ruined electrical equipment. The rescue has moved all 31 cats to a safe area and continues repairs with help from community volunteers and donations.  TMJ-4

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Dennis and Diane Reynolds turned their yard in New Berlin into a sanctuary for native bees — including bumblebees — as Wisconsin faces a severe decline in these species. The retired couple, who completed bumblebee ambassador training at Wehr Nature Center last year, now holds outreach events to share their approach.  TMJ-4

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • WisDOT Secretary Kristina Boardman recommended a study to consider expanding I-94 to six lanes across western Waukesha County. The study proposal will be reviewed by the Transportation Projects Commission before an environmental phase begins — local officials say the step meets rising safety and growth needs.  Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
  • Mayor Rick Petfalski warned that a proposed state housing bill could change Muskego’s suburban feel by increasing density plus straining local emergency services. He urged residents to contact their state assembly representatives and state senators to share their concerns.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • On Tuesday, the Waukesha Finance Committee unanimously advanced a $160 annual fee for garbage and recycling services to the Common Council, which will vote on it on Oct. 8. City officials say the fee shifts costs off property taxes to steady the budget—though some residents and alderpersons have voiced fairness concerns.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • Judge Maria Lazar announced her bid for a ten-year seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court ahead of the April 7 election and asked for voter support—she joins the race after Justice Rebecca Bradley chose not to run again and brings extensive experience from her time on the Court of Appeals and Waukesha County Circuit Court.  Waukesha Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • Brookfield golfer Bruce Henning beat cancer and had a bone marrow transplant from his son Kyle & qualified for the U.S. Senior Amateur in July by shooting a 3-under 69 round at Wisconsin Country Club. He made his debut a month later at Oak Hills Country Club & said his bonus life felt like a dream come true.  FOX6
