- ➤ Beach Bum Bakery in Pewaukee has a new owner as Sarah Stephens sold the bakery to Alexis and Nate McCourt, with the change taking effect Monday as Stephens and her family move back to California. The bakery will keep its signature recipes — such as Peanut Butter Coffee Cake and Cheesecake Brownies — so customers will continue to enjoy their favorite treats. The Waukesha Freeman

- ➤ Students at Mukwonago High School work on auto repair skills like changing brakes and earn hands-on experience through courses that offer certifications and job opportunities—preparing them for future trade careers. - ➤ Fairview South School underwent a $3.5 million renovation over the summer—its most extensive upgrade—and launched a hydroponic farming program that gives special needs students a chance to learn by growing fresh lettuce. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ County officials said two developers joined their plans for a mix of homes and apartments on the former UWM campus at 1500 N. University Drive—closed in June after a long drop in enrollment—and will review the plan at a board meeting on Oct. 27 with a final purchase offer expected by year's end. The Waukesha Freeman
- ➤ Waukesha County officials said residents whose homes were damaged in the August floods must apply for FEMA individual assistance by Nov 12 and for SBA low-interest loans by Nov 10 to cover repairs, temporary housing and other expenses. More than $8 million has already been distributed to nearly 1,200 households, and in-person help is available today at the Brookfield center and starting Monday at Muskego City Hall — call FEMA’s Helpline for guidance.
