  • Waukesha's Goodwill Store & Donation Center offers a wide range of affordable, sustainable costume pieces for Halloween—encouraging shoppers to create unique DIY looks with pre-loved items.  FOX6

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A New Berlin farm suffered severe losses in August floods and now relies on pumpkin sales to cover bills in two weeks before closing for the season on October 31 — owner Landon Valenta said his customers' support has been vital as FEMA assistance is not expected.  TMJ-4

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Paul Schmidt—a retired teacher from Hamilton School District after 30 years—built benches over the summer for Silver Spring Intermediate School's outdoor classroom; they were installed in late August for the new school year. Silver Spring Principal Deanna Wellens said the benches honor his legacy and give students a spot for screen-free learning.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • The UW-Madison Extension Waukesha County 4-H is hosting a New Family Orientation tonight from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the county courthouse—new families will learn about clubs, volunteer work and camp opportunities for youth ages 5 to 19.  The Waukesha Freeman

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A report released Monday by the Greater Milwaukee Association of Realtors showed metro home sales increased by 7.3% and average prices jumped 10.7% from last September, with median prices rising from $340,000 to $380,000. Washington County led the gain with a 23.7% jump in homes sold while listings increased by 8.1% and inventory dropped to 1.8 months (a sign of a tight market).  The Waukesha Freeman

  • Sussex Hamilton High School girls golf team has built a strong team culture over the past four years and earned a 4.3 team GPA — they study together after practice to support their academics and game.  CBS58
  • Brian Anderson, the longtime Brewers play-by-play announcer, broadcast Game 1 of the NLCS for TBS as he stepped into a national role; CBS 58's Lance Allan interviewed him about keeping his Brewers loyalty from interfering with his calls—he described staying unbiased on air.  CBS58
  • Oconomowoc will host the Freedom 150 ride on Oct. 19 to raise funds for the U.S. Paralympic Curling Team. The ride starts at 8 a.m. at Wisconsin Harley-Davidson in Oconomowoc—riders will travel to West Bend and Fond du Lac and join a concert with food in Oconomowoc from 2 to 5 p.m.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • The Brewers lost Game 2 of the NLCS 5–1 to the Dodgers Tuesday night at American Family Field, with Jackson Chourio’s home run giving an early lead before Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto held them scoreless and LA added five runs with homers by Teoscar Hernandez and Max Muncy. Milwaukee will travel to LA for Game 3—set for Thursday night at Dodger Stadium—to try to reverse the series outcome.  CBS58
