CULTURE NEWS

  • In Elm Grove, the Midwest Vocal Express won the Land O’ Lakes District Chorus Competition on Oct. 11, claiming their 10th district title and a spot in an international contest next July. The chorus will perform in a holiday show on Dec. 13 in Jefferson—hosting a guest night on Nov. 3 at Elm Grove Lutheran Church as it prepares for its next event.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • Local author Josh Hughes published Ghosts of Waukesha, a book that documents haunted landmarks and paranormal activity in the city—he uses a ghost box for evidence and leads walking tours on Halloween.  FOX6

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Kettle Moraine School District hosted an Advanced Placement Parent Information Night at the Prism Art Center where many families attended; Dr. Plum and Ms. Kopidlansky led the session on managing AP courses and explained how AP tests helped save tuition—parents can also view the materials online.  Waukesha Times
  • Lake Country Classical Academy in Oconomowoc is partnering with Turning Point USA to create a new civics club that follows the school’s existing club policy — the school clarified that rumors suggesting the club was rejected due to political views are false.  The Waukesha Freeman

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Menomonee Falls police officers were honored Monday night for heroic flood rescues during the Aug. 11 flooding—officers including Matthew Curran saved lives and Assistant Chief Geno Neyhart received a Distinguished Service Award for his leadership. The ceremony recognized several officers with Lifesaving Awards and Letters of Commendation for their quick actions during the dangerous flood conditions.  The Waukesha Freeman
