EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Waukesha school board will meet Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the Blair Administration Building to debate long-range plans under its 'Optimizing Our Future' initiative—options include closing schools, repurposing buildings, and combining grades to address declining enrollment. Superintendent Jim Sebert said the district projects about $15 million in reductions over the next five years and $30 million by 2035 if the trend continues.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • According to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, 134 American Indian students enrolled in Waukesha County schools for 2024—25, marking a 9.8% increase from last year. eAchieve Academy—Wisconsin reported the highest enrollment with 12 students.  Waukesha Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Menomonee Falls firefighters Sean Foley and Jessica Wolfe earned the highest honors for lifesaving rescues during August flooding — Foley rescued a father and son from fast-moving water, and Wolfe supported him with a backup rope. The department is now updating its training and equipment to better handle future emergencies.  TMJ-4
