COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Waukesha native and TV host Carmen de la Paz is named grand marshal for this year's Christmas parade on Sunday, December 7 at 4 p.m. downtown—she has spent years making local memorial art and recently finished a sculpture honoring community loss.  TMJ-4
  • Residents gathered at Veterans Park on Veterans Day to honor veterans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces—local officials and ceremony members led the tribute with respect and community spirit.  The Waukesha Freeman
  • Local law enforcement will hold the 'Shop with Cops' event on Saturday, Dec. 6 from 8:15-11 a.m. at Spring Creek Church where children in grades K-5 will shop with officers at Walmart and enjoy breakfast (including Santa). Families must pick up registration forms at local police departments before Nov. 19 and selected participants will be notified (by Nov. 24).  The Waukesha Freeman

BUSINESS NEWS

  • On Time Heating & Cooling donated $7,000 to Hope Center this fall by giving $500 from each furnace and air conditioner installation in October—an effort inspired by owner Shane Herro honoring his breast cancer survivor mother. The funds will support essential services for local families during winter.  The Waukesha Freeman

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On November 12th, the Waukesha School Board voted 8 to 1 to close Bethesda, Hawthorne and the Whittier building by the end of the school year to address declining enrollment and repurpose Horning Middle School into a K-8 STEM facility; dual language programs will move to other sites. Parents and community groups voiced concerns (with petitions gathering hundreds of signatures) and the district expects to save about $3.2 to $3.7 million with the changes.  Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Waukesha will hold a remembrance ceremony on Friday, Nov. 21 at 4:39 p.m. at the Parade Memorial at Grede Park near 538 Riverwalk Drive—this event will honor lives lost during the parade tragedy with the dedication of the final sculpture 'Holding Love' and remarks by city leaders.  TMJ-4
  • Waukesha homeowner Michelle Radakovic said she faced steep repair costs after FEMA denied her flood claim on the final day to apply following August's historic storms—over 2,600 local residents already received aid, and she has appealed both the FEMA decision and her insurance denial as she worried that winter weather might worsen the damage.  FOX6

  • Former high school athletes from Waukesha County will compete in sports games on Saturday, Nov. 15. The schedule shows matchups starting at 11 a.m. with players from schools like Oconomowoc High and Brookfield Central (details include positions and opposing teams).  Waukesha Times
